Honestly, I had trouble getting into the Christmas spirit. Until last week I wasn’t so sure I was even going to put a Christmas tree up at all for the Midtown studio. The thought of all those storage containers and dozens of ornaments was absolutely overwhelming. The year 2020 was a handful in itself. I just didn’t know how much extra energy I had in me so, I scaled it back to 5 items only on the Christmas tree.
And I truly love it…. it’s understated, classic, and one of a kind, not to mention easy.
Here are the 5 simple decor items you need to decorate an 8 foot Christmas tree.
6 artificial green berry sprays (link)
12 artificial magnolia sprays (link)
38 dried hydrangea blooms { these where collected from my yard over the summer}
24 random brown/beige and green ornaments. I used round orbs and pears.
12 natural dried kiwi stems (link)
First put all of your ornaments on the Christmas tree.
Next put in the artificial magnolia sprays. These are simply sitting in the tree. They aren’t wired or secured in any way, please don’t over think it… this is a super easy casual design.
Then place the berry sprays on the tree. I like to shape mine into a organic S-curve so they aren’t as vertical and abrupt.
Now the fun part… begin to the place the hydrangea blooms.
My blooms had a 12-18” stem and, like the magnolia sprays, they are simply sitting in the tree. They aren’t wired or secured in any way. Lastly, add the kiwi stems for a bit more of a whimsical texture. I like to place the stems a bit vertically with the base of the stem pointing down to the center base of the Christmas tree. Don’t secure them just stick them in.
Around the base of the tree I used a moss green velvet, round table cloth folded in half. For some reason I find tree skirts to be too small. I don’t like a tiny tree skirt. Then I added a reindeer hide off to the side and a huge vine basket.
That’s actually my laundry basket. But for right now it’s gonna hold presents under the tree.
Easy and sophisticated… not to mention truly Southern.
Merry Christmas everyone. XOXO Abbi
